On May 17, 2008, NASCAR's most popular driver and favorite son, Dale Earnhardt, Jr, will drive his third 3 Doors Down car in the Sprint All-Star Race at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Jr has always been a huge fan of the Mississippi-born post-grunge rock band, but this program is sure to have even more legs this year because of 3 Doors Down's connection to the National Guard; one of Junior's primary sponsors on the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. The band's new song from its new album, which is set to hit stores in May, is titled "Citizen Soldier." The song played in more than 25,000 movie theatres nationwide recently alongside a short clip of National Guardsmen doing their duty from the Revolutionary War to today. This isn't the first time 3 Doors Down has shown its support for the troops. Their video for "When I’m Gone" in 2002 was dedicated to the soldiers and Marines and showed the band performing the song on an aircraft carrier at sea. Because of the band's strong connection to the National Guard and support of the troops, this year's Dale Junior/National Guard/3Doors Down paint scheme will be one of Earnhardt Jr.'s largest programs of the year.
